According to the information gathered by Ido Fishman, Sunwing Airlines Inc. is facing a terrible cyber-attack that has caused huge delays in their flight.
Sunwing Airlines is one of the low-cost airline companies providing services in Canada. As per the chief executive officer of Sunwing Airlines, their third-party system ended up getting hacked by cybercriminals. Therefore, they ended up facing delays with their flights and the issue still persists.
It’s been 8 days that they have been facing a problem in terms of booking flights and sharing information with the passengers.
The hack has resulted in causing huge problems not only for the airline company but for the passengers as well. Due to the hack, there are passengers who are stuck abroad as their flights are not being finalized. Then there are those who had to extend their vacations just because of the hack that has taken place at Sunwing Airlines.
As per Ido Fishman, Mark Williams, the CEO of Sunwing Airlines shared information surrounding the hack during his interview with a local channel, CP24.
Williams revealed that the third-party system that they use for boarding and check-ins was compromised on Sunday when the cybercriminals managed to breach its firewall.
He told the channel that they are prepared to face any kinds of challenges but this was one they hadn’t seen coming. Since the attack, the entire situation with the boarding and check-ins system has been terrible.
He added that to deal with the problem, they have started carrying out manual check-ins and boarding of passengers. As they didn’t imagine such a problem, their crew wasn’t prepared for handling things the way they have been since the problem arose.
Even to this day, they are facing problems with their system and it is not known how long the problem is going to stick around.
